Description

This map is corrected to 26 July, 1915 on a scale of 1:10:000 and it stretches from the Hohenzollern Redoubt in the north to Loos itself at the bottom of the sheet. Unlike later maps it only shows the defenders’ lines and defences. Note, particularly, the large number of gun emplacements (or their ‘approximate’ locations as a note says) to the west of Hulluch.

This is an extremely interesting map from early in the war, which makes an interesting comparison with the highly detailed maps of later on. Nevertheless, ‘wire entanglements’ are shown quite distinctly from ‘Chevaux-de-frise’.
