We aim to process and dispatch all orders within 7 working days.

Free UK delivery on orders £50 and over.

Free Local pickup, order online and select option local pickup and collect in-store during your visit. Car park charges will apply after 20 minutes if using our car park.

For UK orders: Once your order has been received and again when it is dispatched, you will receive an automated confirmation email. Do check your junk email folder if you do not receive these confirmation emails as they do sometimes end up filtered depending on your device's security settings. After receiving your despatch confirmation email UK orders then take a further 3-5 working days to be delivered by Royal Mail. 

Your order will be sent via Royal Mail or with one of our nominated parcel carriers. All UK parcels are sent using standard delivery service and do not come with tracking information that guarantees delivery within a certain time frame. If your parcel does not arrive within a reasonable period of time (for UK orders after 10 working days from dispatch) and no calling card is present, please contact us.

If you have ordered more than one item, we may need to deliver your order in separate shipments. Regardless of the number of deliveries you receive you will only be charged the shipping cost quoted during checkout.

We reserve the right to cancel bulk or large orders particularly to international destinations where the delivery costs are prohibitive. We will contact you if we are unable to fulfil your order for these or similar reasons and will refund you in full to your original payment method. If you wish to order multiple items of the same product for example for school groups please contact us in advance by email as we may not be able to fulfil your request.

In the unlikely event that your order does not arrive we may refund you if we are unable to resend the missing delivery due to stock levels and unavailable products. Orders older than six months that are queried as un-delivered will be looked at on a case by case basis and we cannot guarantee a refund or replacement in this instance.

Please note that online orders are not processed or dispatched at weekends or public holidays. 

At busy times, particularly during November and December and during our promoted Sales, please allow additional time for order processing and delivery. 

Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an automated dispatch confirmation email.

Ever wondered why you've received your orders from us in reused boxes, we try and ship as many orders as possible using second hand recycled boxes and if your delivery contained bubble wrap, this is reused from a delivery we've received.

Delivery Restrictions

Delivery times vary depending on destination country, and some countries may have longer delivery times than stated here. We cannot guarantee delivery times, and postal services may be disrupted due to adverse weather, industrial action, and security restrictions.

We do not deliver to PO Box addresses as standard. Any order received with a PO Box address may be cancelled and refunded. If you are ordering from outside the United Kingdom to a PO Box address and cannot provide an alternate address if we request one, we will accept no responsibility for any issues with sending your order to the PO Box you specify.

Some countries may impose import duties on deliveries from the UK. Customers are responsible for any applicable customs duties or taxes that may be imposed on a delivery in the destination country. Please bear in mind that items are sometimes delayed in customs, which is beyond our control.

We reserve the right to cancel bulk or large orders particularly to international destinations where the delivery costs are prohibitive. We will contact you if we are unable to fulfil your order for these or similar reasons and will refund you in full to your original payment method.

 

Many countries prohibit import of common items (including books, glassware, ceramics and jewellery) available to purchase on our website, and we cannot provide an exhaustive list here. If you are in doubt about whether your country will allow the import of a particular item, please check here before ordering. If you order any item prohibited for import to your country, it may be returned to us or destroyed by local customs officials. In this instance we will be unable to offer a refund but do contact us to see if we can assist.

We are currently unable to send orders to Israel and Palestine.

Deliveries to Russia and Belarus have been suspended until further notice.

Due to international customs regulations we are obliged to include an invoice showing prices paid and total paid in every parcel sent overseas, this includes gift parcels sent to recipients other than the original purchaser.

We are unable to send custom prints to all European destinations, orders for custom prints placed for European delivery will be cancelled and refunded.

Delivery within the UK

Standard Delivery

We offer free standard delivery on all orders over £50.

Orders up to £30 are charged a flat fee of £4.95

Orders between £30.01 and £50 are charged a flat fee of £6.95

Our standard delivery service is sent via Royal Mail, please note this option does not come with any tracking information.

Usual delivery timescale is 5 working days from the date of dispatch. Please allow up to 14 days for delivery.

Delivery within Europe

If you are ordering goods for delivery outside the UK to Europe you may be subject to further local import duties and taxes, which are payable by you, the customer. 

Standard Delivery

Orders up to £30 are charged a fee of £9.95

Orders between £30.01 and £50 are charged a fee of £14.95.

Orders between £50.01 and £100 are charged a fee of £24.95.

Orders over £100 are charged a fee of £39.95

Local pickup

Local pickup is our free, ‘collect in store’ service. Orders will be available for collection from the till point in The National Archives shop during regular shop opening hours, Tuesday to Saturday 10:00am to 4:30pm.

Orders placed before midnight will usually be ready for collection in 48 hours. You will receive a confirmation email to confirm that the order is ready to collect: in the unlikely event that your order will not be ready in time we will contact you. Once orders are ready, they can be collected during shop opening hours, between Tuesday and Saturday.

When collecting your order, please ensure you bring a copy of your order. We will accept a printed copy or you can show us a copy of the email confirmation on your phone or tablet.

For those customers who wish to use The National Archives' car park when collecting an item from our shop, please note that there is a charge for parking which is applicable following a 20 minute free of charge grace period.

In the unlikely event the item(s) you ordered is not available; we will contact you by the email address you used when placing your order, as soon as possible within working hours. If you have any concerns regarding your order or require more information on this service, please contact us.

If someone is collecting an order on your behalf they will need to bring a copy of your order confirmation either a printed copy or a confirmation on a mobile device.

We will make every effort to have your goods available for collection within the estimated timescales. However delays are occasionally inevitable during busy periods or due to unforeseen factors or events outside our control.

Orders for pickup will be held for you to collect for 3 weeks starting from the date of payment. After this date we will refund you in full and return the items from your order to stock. You will be unable to collect your order once a refund has been made.

Unframed orders are shipped within 5 working days (normally shipped next day).

Framed orders are shipped within 20 working days.

We are unable to send custom prints to all European destinations, orders for custom prints placed for European delivery will be cancelled and refunded.

How will you ship my custom print order?

For UK destinations unframed print orders are sent by Royal Mail Signed For® 1st Class.

All framed prints are shipped by courier (Parcelforce or UPS) as standard.

For international orders, unframed prints are sent by Royal Mail tracked and signed for.

Please note that if your order contains a mixture of the above products they could be shipped to you in separate parcels.

Do you deliver to custom prints to P.O. Boxes?

No, unfortunately, we cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes.

Do you offer international shipping for custom prints?

We are currently only shipping unframed custom prints internationally, we hope to roll out international shipping for framed custom prints in the future. Deliveries to Russia and Belarus have been suspended until further notice.
