Maybe it’s because we have our own swans at The National Archives but we love this little gift book about the swan and its place in British history and culture: from gracing a King’s table to posing for a picture on the front of a matchbox the swan is part of British life. A sweet well illustrated gift book.
Bestselling nature writer and author of The Robin, The Wren and The Swallow, Stephen Moss, masterfully narrates the life cycle of the Swan through the four seasons of the year. From the details of the Swan's life, to its place in popular culture and literature across the centuries, and from old symbolism to modern myths, The Swan is a fascinating guide to Britain's largest and most elegant bird.
