Description
The Northern line is the most complex of the deep level tube lines, both in its history and operation. Moving through the last 130 years, this book focuses on some of the more unusual aspects of the story. In particular, the uncompleted wartime extensions, other proposed extensions, the express services that once operated on the line and the deep level shelters built in World War Two and intended for an express tube after the war.

The Northern City Line is also be included, as well as the closed stations at locations such as South Kentish Town and City Road. Rolling stock and depots get a mention, along with some of the stations along the line. Future proposals, including separating the line into two and a possible extension to Clapham Junction are also covered.

With over 120 images, this book provides brief history of the Northern line, from the first deep level tube line opened in 1890 to the recent extension to Battersea Power Station.
