Description

Visscher's panorama was the most detailed view of London before the great fire of 1666. It depicts London as Shakespeare knew it, the Globe theatre in Southwark is shown where his plays were performed by the Kings players. Prominent on the south bank of the Thames are the Bear Garden and swan theatres, rivals of the Globe, along with the church of St Saviours, said to be founded by St Swithin, that later became Southwark Cathedral.

Connecting Southwark to the City of London is Old London Bridge. Building began in 1176, supervised by Peter Colechurch, and was completed in 1209. At the time of Visscher's view there were around 200 buildings on the bridge, some up to 6 stories high.

St Paul's is prominent and shown without it's spire, one of the tallest in Europe, that burnt down in 1561. Wren estimated it to be around 140 metres tall.

The Folding Map Company produce reproductions of the rarer maps and antique illustrations, all dissected and hand laid onto 100% natural cotton cloth. London circa 1616 is supplied rolled and in a tube. Pigment ink, archival paper, laid on cloth. 48inches by 10inches.

Orders up to £30 are charged a flat fee of £4.95

Orders between £30.01 and £50 are charged a flat fee of £6.95.

Custom Prints

Your prints and frames will be handmade by King & McGaw at their Sussex workshop.

Unframed orders are shipped within 5 working days (normally shipped next day).

Framed orders are shipped within 20 working days.

If you are not completely satisfied with your item you may return it within 28 days for a refund.

Unfortunately we cannot offer a refund on custom prints unless they are faulty or we have made a mistake. Custom prints are exempt as they are made to order.
