Since it was once a legal requirement to serve as an apprentice before practicing a trade, it is possible that we will all discover an apprentice or two while researching our family history. This book contains useful information on locating records regarding these apprentices, and outlines the prodigious history of apprenticeship. Employing a simple yet comprehensive style, the author, Stuart A Raymond, expounds on the availability of a number of sources, including apprentice indentures, poll books, freeman registers, wills and newspapers. For anybody interested in discovering more about their apprentice ancestors, this is an essential starting point.
